Welcome to the web site of Cougar Energy Ltd. The Company in its present form has only had a short history – since October 2006 – but has already established itself as a leading player internationally in the development of an old technology in a new form:

UNDERGROUND COAL GASIFICATION (UCG)

This technology exists for the in-situ conversion of deep coal deposits uneconomic for underground mining into a gas recovered at the surface which can be used as a fuel for power generation or to manufacture into a wide variety of petrochemical products.

The technology has had a long history of development in the former Soviet Union, and is only now being adapted in a number of Western countries to meet the requirements for an energy source using coal which meets both the economic and efficiency requirements demanded by Government and industry.

Cougar Energy is in a unique position to lead the commercialisation of UCG technology, while maintaining the highest technical and environmental standards in its operations. The Company’s management, in association with its technology provider – Ergo Exergy Technologies Inc of Canada – were instrumental in the revival of the technology in Australia in 1999, when no active interest existed elsewhere in the world. This association has continued to the present day, and is expanding with the broadening of Cougar Energy’s international interests.

In the following pages of this web site, we will discuss the technology and its history, introduce you to the company Board and staff, and to the Companies with whom we are associated, as we continue on the challenging path of commercialising this unique technology for the efficient utilisation of the huge coal resources existing both in Australia and internationally.
